UPDATE
"Every person is a new door to a different world."
- from movie "Six Degrees of Separation"
It's been a while since I've blogged. A lot has happened. The holidays came and went. During the first week of January, the kids, P. and I went up North to the mountains. We went to June Mountain, about 18 miles from Mammoth. It was really great. We stayed in some lovely cottages and we got stuck in a blizzard. The blizzard was particularly wonderful because we live in LA where snow is so … non-existent. I had not seen any snow since 2001 … the last time I went to the mountains. It was a nice change. June looked like a winter wonderland. We played in the snow – sledding, snow men, snow basketball (we found a hoop and started tossing snow balls into it), snow angels, and other snow games. It was very windy, so I did not stay out too terribly long and enjoyed the warm cabin, hot chocolate, and America's Next Top Model Marathon. Well, I watched the Marathon until the blackout, then I read by candlelight and headlamp. It was great. J
Since then we've been bopping here and there – living the dream. I had two unrelated friends from Mexico City visiting LA yesterday. I had brunch with Katia, the first friend, at the Newsroom Café – delish as always. The other friend, Alexandra, invited me to a dinner party in honor of her father's birthday. P. and I went over there for dinner and just had the lovliest time. I had not seen Alexandra since we were both working in an NGO in Buenos Aires in 2003. We had computers next to one another. She told a really funny story last night that I had not remembered. She said that when she first met me she saw me doing some sort of complex calculation on the computer's calculator. She asked me what I was doing and I said that I was calculating what percentage of Bill Gates' fortune it would take to pay off my law school loans. I don't remember this happening, but it's very likely. When I was in BA, I was an unpaid visiting scholar and volunteer with the NGO. I was always trying to think of creative ways to get some money so I could stay in the country longer. I never did ask Bill for money, I earned money teaching yoga and English. And I left the country when I was supposed to.
Ale invited us to visit her in Mexico City Easter Week. Since I have two friends in Mexico City and am starting to get itchy feet (I haven't left the country in over 6 months), I think we're going to go. J
