"If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead." -- Johnny Carson

I can't believe I forgot to blog about Thai Elvis. I'm so love-struck by Charlie, that I've thought of little else. On Friday night we went to Palm Thai to celebrate Melissa's post-bar day. [She'd just finished taking the California Bar. After taking that exam, if you don't feel like killing yourself you must celebrate]. I am a BIG Elvis fan (OK, I'm not a crazy fan, but I dig the King) and decided that eating great Thai food and seeing a Thai Elvis impersonator would be lots of fun. There was also a bonus lounge singer doing a strange karaoke type thing. Thai Elvis, a short Thai guy who does a mean Elvis impression, was sort of outshined in my mind by his lounge singer shirt wearing colleague. This guy could sing like ANYONE. I walked in and he was singing a Bee Gee's song. At first I thought he was lip synching. He wasn't. Then he sang Louis Armstrong. Sounded just like him. Then he sang a Eurythmics song. Yup, you guessed it. He was spot on. Kermit the Frog's Rainbow Connection? He even had the puppet. Nat King Cole/Nathalie Cole! This guy sang everything and could sound like any body. It was almost creepy, but still incredibly impressive.

charlie, marley, and drool

"Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you? But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window." ~ Steve Bluestone.

I threw Marley in the back seat and went to pick up Katie and Nicole for an inaugural drive down PCH today. It was really fun. There's nothing like driving along the beach with the top down. It's not always that warm, so the heated seats are such a wonderful feature! We went way down to the end of Malibu and went for a beautiful sunset hike. It was perfect except for the fact that Marley is such a drooler. She loves to hang her head over the side of the car and feel the wind in her face. Her tongue hangs out and her drool flies all over the side of the car and the windows. Also her fur flies everywhere and got all over the convertible top and the backseat. Her claws on the leather seats was also slightly traumatic. Of course I love my dog more than Charlie, but dear God! You could have eaten off the car before that dog got in there. I need to get my car to a carwash tomorrow. I swear I didn't use to be this crazy and insane. She could have puked in the backseat of the Civic and I would have probably forgotten about it [not really, but the car was almost perpetually drool covered]. That just seems completely unacceptable now.

"Parting is such sweet sorrow." -William Shakespeare

So, I'm already apart from my beloved new automobile. It's tragique. I feel like donning black and going into mourning. I was misled. They said that it would only take a couple of hours and when i brought it in, they said it would be at least 24 hours before i got my car back! The dealer told me that they wanted me to bring my car in so they could install lo-jack, give me new place mats, do a better job with detailing, etc. [I was the last one there last night and they wanted to make the deal, but all the mechanics wanted to get the hell out of there]. So, even though they could have driven a car to me, I decided to drive to the dealership. It's not far and I just LOVE driving my new baby. I thought I'd have my lovely car back by this evening. Alas, no! The lo-jack people won't be here before tomorrow so I have to wait until possibly tomorrow evening.

They gave me a loaner MINI. It's just not the same. It's a lovely silver regular MINI, but no convertible and no flashy red color. Also, it's an automatic. It's just not as fun. Sigh.

Oh well, tomorrow I shall be reunited with my dear sweet Charlie (that's her name). I can't wait!

I'm a MINI Owner!!!

I just bought the car that I've been desiring for over 3 years -- I bought a beautiful red mini cooper convertible. It is SOOOO fun to drive and it's just made for me. I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy, that there are not enough O's to express it.

:D

Latest Addition

Hip Girlz has some new items. Check out the Sassy, Saucy Satchels!

Part of the Classy & Sassy collection, these satchels are definitely for the sassiest among us. I love these bags! They can be dressed up or dressed down, but are never understated. Whenever I wear mine, complete strangers stop me and ask "WHERE did you get that amazing bag?!?" I tell them Argentina. They look dejected, until I hand them my card and tell them I'm importing. :)

The bag is made of wire wrapped with a raw silk lining and silk drawstring cord. This masterpiece is completed with decorations of crystals, glass beads, and semi-precious stones. The designer of these Classy & Sassy pieces is a amazing Argentine woman and mother. Her adorable son (very cute young man; he had me drooling a bit actually) helps her run the business. When I saw these satchels, I knew they had to be part of Hip Girlz.

Post V-Day Update

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. ~From the movie Annie

So, I had a really nice Valentine's Day date last night. F. brought me a lovely bouquet of flowers and took me to a very nice restaurant. We had a very nice time, but I had to end things today. I went on a run this morning with Jojo. She asked about him and when I told her that he wasn't athletic at all, you yelled at me "You know that's not going to work! For you that's a deal breaker!" I thought about it and realized that F. will indeed not work for me as a boyfriend/life partner because of this. I am an ironwoman-in-training [and an athletic woman in general] and need someone who can keep up with me and even push me to greater heights. F. sent me a sweet e-mail when he got back from our date last night saying how much fun he had and how comfortable he is with me. I sent him an e-mail acknowledging him for showing me such a great time, but laid my truth on him about how it's not going to ultimately work out. He responded that he understands it was really great getting to know me. He later called to say that he thinks I'm amazing and if I ever change my mind, please let him know. He's such a sweetie, but I'm really trying to keep my eyes on the prize and only date the ones that have genuine potential.

Happy Valentine's Day

"It matters not
who you love,
where you love,
why you love,
when you love,
or how you love,
It matters only
that You love."

~ John Lennon

I have a Valentine's date. My date seems to truly want to celebrate this holiday. He very sweetly asked me out to for tonight on Sunday and was really keen for me to be his Valentine. This is a new one for me. Mostly guys i date try to avoid this holiday like the plague. Maybe I'm just projecting. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing what tonight brings. I'm curious to observe what this cute man will do.

Friday Evening

"If you realize how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought." -- Peace Pilgrim

It's Friday evening and amazingly enough, I don't have plans. On the one hand, I find that slightly troubling, but on the other hand I find it to be a complete relief! I'm going to go home and cook myself some dinner [I'm inspired by Julia Child's biography which I just finished this morning] and paint [I have painting class tomorrow and I haven't finished my paintings]. Also, I am inspired to paint from the trip to the Ecstasy Exhibit at the Geffen that I went to with Jill and Gavin yesterday.

Ahh, life is good and rest is fantastique!

First Class

"I don't think pleasure is decadent. It's part of life, it's the juice of life, it's the reason for living, for everything we do."
-Julia Child

I went to Denver yesterday for the day. I flew in, went to client meetings (with some yummy looking Major League Soccer players) and then flew home. Even though it was quite short and slightly tiring, I had fun. I love the team I'm working with and the case. Also, I used my miles to upgrade to first class -- always a fun time. Y'all, why is first class SOOOO much better than economy?

Poem

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it's always ourselves we find in the sea

-e.e. cummings

I love this poem. It reminds me of how lucky I am to live in LA, near the ocean. Tomorrow I'm off to Denver. It's just for the day to work on a case, but for me travel is always nice and appreciated.

Quote and Little Update

"There is a place that you are to fill and no one else can fill, something you are to do, which no one else can do." - Florence Scovel Shinn

Back from New York. I had a blast as always. Weather was unseasonably warm ... not LA, but I'll take it. I had beautiful runs along the East River, lots of time with friends, and even some time with "inappropriate" boys. Life is good. Also graduation was appropriately scandalous -- filled with nudity, flowers, poetry, tiaras, and the eruptive power and energy of pleasured women. Good times.

Oh, update on the ball gown situation... Through work, I was invited to a black tie event. Ask and it is given.

New York

"Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day."
Winnie the Pooh from Pooh's Little Instruction Book

I'm off to New York tonight for graduation from Courtesan class at Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts and to celebrate Corinne's 30th b-day. I have two group dinner parties planned... it's hard for me to see all my people, so it's always easiest for me to just say I'll be here... show up.
